This book will help you answer two difficult questions: ‘What difference can I make in the climate crisis?’ and ‘What should I eat tonight?’

During dinner one night, Frank Holleman wondered what the most effective solution for climate change might be. His research brought him to food, which is responsible for a quarter of all greenhouse gases. In his eyes, this was good news, because changing food is not dependent on technology but our choices.

But those choices aren’t always easy, especially when they mean changing our habits and doing things differently. Frustrated with most meatless recipes, Frank set out to make sustainable cooking easier. In the process, he discovered new tastes, became a better cook and most importantly, he found new hope in the stories about sustainable farming.

With simple language and inspiring anecdotes, Frank dissects the underlying issue of the climate crisis. Fork Ranger draws a bridge between our plates and the land our food comes from. Without ignoring the urgency of the problem, his positive outlook is a refreshing tone in a subject characterised by doom scenarios.

The recipes use veggies as star ingredients and include a few meals that show us how meat can be a tastemaker rather than the main ingredient. The recipes are simple and easy, and yet they dare us to be more adventurous. The aim of Fork Ranger is to help total beginners and broaden the perspective of home chefs.

  • Food for the Belly and the Brain

    Created Melinda (2020-10-07, 00:08)

This book really made me think about the relationship between food and environmental responsibility in a way that I never had before; This was not an idea that was ever presented to me in the past, but what a tasty way to learn! Even after just cooking a couple of the recipes, I found myself grocery shopping differently and even adapting my favorite recipes to be less harmful to the environment. I make the Oven Polenta on the reg with or without cheese (I use grits and they work perfectly) for either dinner or brunch! I'm so excited to share this book with friends and family!

  • Great recipes, important stories

What I love most about Fork Ranger are the many easily digestible stories within the book. Beyond the delicious meals, this is more than your average cookbook! I often flick through whilst cooking to see if I cam learn something new to truly make a difference to the climate through my diet.

  • Delicious recipes, interesting articles

I'm a student and I do my best to do my part for the climate. This book is very easy way to think and act about food use! Furthermore, the recipes are actually quite delicious, which means that this is in fact the only cooking book I actually use (the rest of them are just laying in my closet, as I tend to look for specific recipes on the internet).

  • The best guide to eating responsibly!

If you're looking for very simple recipes that you could literally do every day - look no further! With these recipes, I ALWAYS have something meet-free to prepare when a lot of people come to visit and have reduced my meat consumption by about 80% very comfortably!

  • Beautiful, insightful, educational and delicious!

Created Yara van Noord (2020-01-31, 10:57)

I really enjoy this book, it's incredibly insightful and very pleasing to look at and read through. The informative text is written in a way that is easily digestable (pun intended), and the recipes are simple, easy to follow and above all very delicious! This book truly opened my eyes to new ways on how to cook meatless, but with great satisfactory results. And to top it all off; there is no shaming or guilt tripping involved, splendid!
